Best Chicken Gyro Ever!

Beth and I are on a trip to the Eastern Mediterranean that finished up in Athens. Our first day there we were free for lunch and our great Tour Guide, Dimitri, recommended a small corner restaurant just two blocks away. Their Chicken Gyro totally blew me away! The chicken was moist and tender with so much flavor, the homemade pita was fantastic, and I would willingly pay money for their sauce to make it at home. The the cost for this wondrous delight was 5 Euro!

I will be doing more posts on this trip, just starting with a short one. The name of the restaurant is The Greco’s Project or Grecos for short. It is a half block off Parliament Square. A small corner restaurant with inside and outside tables, for those in the DC area, think Lebanese Taberna. They have a great menu with many choices.

As we finished our lunch we talked with the owner who had gone to college at Ohio State. He told us that his Pastitisio was his speciality, made from scratch and 20 minutes to bring it to the table. We came back that night for dinner and split one order of it and it was great. Two nights later we went back for the Moussaka, also a 20 minute prep time, and it was also terrific. Today on our last day in Athens we went back for lunch. I had the Pork Gyro and Beth again had the Chicken Gyro. The Pork was great but the GOAT Gyro was the Chicken and I had to do a quick post about it.

Greco’s takes credit cards they hand you the machine with 0% tip as the default. The norm in Greece, like the rest of Europe, is to leave a small tip when you get god service. I chose 5% on the machine and got an appreciative thanks from the waiter each time.

I highly recommend this restaurant for the quality and quality of this servings and the pleasant family atmosphere. Each time we came back we were recognized and welcomed. The only downside is you will be disappointed in every other Chicken Gyro you have after tasting their’s.
